Ive been conflicted about writing this, but wtf. Avoid avoid avoid (I cant say it enough) the night vet, and if you can, at all, make the effort to cross the Pasig River and go to VIP. He actually tried to place a needle larger than my cats vein into the vein to get blood and I heard him say, “nasaan yung maliit masyado malaki yung needle na ito…dibale nalang” and he used it while the weeks old cat cried and when I asked why she kept crying he said the needle was too big!!!
I have not been satisfied with the service here for Itas epilepsy and Itit’s kittenhood problems so I would say go with routine care here they’re ok, for worrisome cases I was only happy once — when Dr. D*llas took care of mother when she had liver problems.

I am President and Founder of Sirius Global Animal Charitable Trust, an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
We are in the process of collating a submission to be presented to the World Health Organisation on recommendations from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.
I urgently need to contact Dr Arturo Pangan to see if he is prepared to issue a statement on the dangers of eating dog meat. We understand there have been reported cases of humans dying from eating rabid dogs.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
hi!
found your blog through searching for vets in the manila area. other than the vets highlighted, would you happen to know if the rest on the list can handle a budgie? (it’s often mistaken for a parakeet, probably because that’s what American English people call it)
anyway, i need to find one that can handle a budgie because we recently “rescued” one and im concerned that it might be sick…
thanks!
Good day! This is Melanie, I am currently doing some thinking about my dog’s well being that is why I turned to you to get some feedback.
My dog is currently under a veterinarian named Dr. Basilio M. Siervo with license number 3035. My dog is being confined in his clinic because it can’t eat and if it tries to, it throws up. On his first home visit Dr. Siervo said it might be from flea infestation so he gave us a couple of medication and left, well it didn’t work and my dog just got worst. So the next day we decided to bring him to his clinic for confinement because it really need a dextrose for it couldn’t eat. During that period his assistant said it might be gastroenteritis. However, when we called today he said the ailment is from worms and that it’s being given medications for it. And if it isn’t enough that he is being so shady on what really is my dog’s sickness, he also gave me an option to bring the poor thing home cause he said my dog is feisty! I mean, of course it will fight a little, even people gets a little harsh when dextrose is being put into them, it hurts! But to tell me to just bring the dog home because they are having a hard time with it when the poor thing can’t even eat on its own is downright wrong don’t you think? I couldn’t really understand what Dr. Siervo is thinking and I want your advice on whether or not I should change doctors.
How much will it be if my dog will be confined in your clinic? Do you think it can get better?
Here are my dogs’ symptoms:
-A couple of days before it got confined it ate just a few spoonfuls up until Sunday, Feb.18, when it just couldn’t eat at all.
-He throws up what it ate with all of it looking just like when it ate it. chewed but still not digested.
-Its’ feces is combination hard (dark, almost black) and wet (yellowish).
-It is very anaemic, it has very pale gums and eyes, as well as a dry nose.
Please reply to this message as soon as possible. I wouldn’t want my dog harmed. Also, here is my contact# 0915-9367403.
Thank you so much!

Hi Judy,
I’m not a doctor but I will forward your question to my friend Liza (who isnt a doctor either but is active with PAWS) who may be able to help you with information or referrals.

Mia
Hi!
I have a problem with my dog (a toy poodle), he has a cataract. I’m just wondring what steps are needed to ensure he doesn’t get blind.
I’m thinking of either an eye-drop formulation which I saw in youtube, but I’m not sure if it’s available in the Philippines.
Also, I’ve considered surgery, but I’ve called a dozen vets but it seems that no one is capable of the procedure.
Please help me, I’ll be very grateful to get a response from you the soonest possible time.
My dog is only 5 years old and is very obedient & affectionate. It will really sadden me & my wife if he gets blind.
Thanks in advance…
Hi Joseph,
Try taking your dog to Vets in Practice.
Scrapita (aka Ratsky) one of our dogs had glaucoma and my dad took her there for a checkup and the doctor prescribed some eyedrops and gave options on what to do (surgery was an option but we could not afford it). She was on eyedrops but eventually became blind.
I suggest you visit them and discuss but in case after all your effort your dog goes blind do not be too disheartened they can learn to adjust with your help just make sure that they are always inside your home area and your gate is closed because in case they get out into the street they cannot see to protect themselves.
Scrapita has been blind for quite a while but I think she tries to memorize the locations of cabinets / stairs / etc and she always follows peoples voices.
Good luck.

Rachelle, since you’re stressed and worried I won’t bitch too much about your text talk ok. To be honest I was not intending to reply because your tone and message irked me, but are we not both communicating because we both care for your cat?
I’ve asked my friend Liza to call you so you would have gotten advice re where to bring your cat.
If I come across as too judgemental please please correct me, but if you can afford to buy a purebred cat why do you say you can’t take him to the vet? Surely you can try and negotiate. UP Vet Med is not too expensive din. In future, if you have other cats please be vigilant if they do not eat for even a day. Cats cannot take starvation and if they dont eat they’re usually in really bad shape. In any case I hope your cat gets better, or has any pains eased.
howdy, can somebody give me an advice. how do i train my kitten to do her business on her litter? gracias…
Deontae try googling thats what I would do. Although most cats instinctively use the litter and cover up. Maybe try a litter that doesnt have a strong “clean lysol like” smell?
Hi
I just have my dog maltese breed, 2 and half month old.

hi my name is mj i have a cat named kimberly, actually i bought it a month ago..she’s 1yr already when i buy her. the owner told me that she’s near heat ready to be pregnant, but he did’nt told me if the cat is pregnant or not when i bought it,i observe that my cat is blowted.. i dont have any idea if she’s already pregnant or not,my friend say’s that maybe she’s ill thats why her tummy is kinda big some say’s maybe she’s pregnant,do you have procedure like ultra sound for my cat to make sure if she’s pregnant or ill??
Geoffrey which IS your clinic? You’ve left a few comments all with different addresses, so maybe say which need to get deleted, so I can do an update.
MJ, since you’re on a page with tens of vet details maybe you should start calling one of them. I would think both a pregnancy and a sickness would warrant a checkup of your cat.
Hi! I would just like to share a warning and to ask for a vet that you could recommend who could help with the specific case of our beloved dog. I think she’s not out of the woods yet due to poor patient care from our previous vet and I would really appreciate it if you could point us to the best vet that would be able to help. Thank you so much!
Just a warning for those going to Ole Veterinary Hospital in Cainta:
Please AVOID bringing your pets there if it is an emergency and Dr. Ole is not around. Please pardon the long post but the situation really disappointed and angered me and I wish that none of you (and your pets) would be in the same position.
We recently had an experience wherein our dog was in a critical situation and they did not know what to do in extreme emergency cases. they just held her head and asked what was wrong. (As if the dog is going to tell them outright, ne?) here’s a short history of what happened:
2-3 days prior to confinement, we brought the dog there with the complaint that she seems to be having difficulty walking (indicating pain), she was yelping when carried and her gait and stance were abnormal. But all they did was give her pain killers and vitamins.
1 day prior to confinement, we insisted that they take an X-ray because she really seemed to be in pain and the meds they gave were not helping. She was sent home after the vet looked at her xray and pronounced that everything was normal.
that evening, our pet’s eyes were very red and were bulging from her eye sockets. we immediately brought her to Ole Vet Hospital to get emergency treatment. But when we got there, no one seemed to know what to do and we had to wait for Dr. Ole to get there.
While waiting, they just left the dog there! Until my mom (being a nurse) asked if they should be putting an IV (dextrose) line. That was the only time that they did!
Only when Dr. Ole arrived did we see some medicine being done. The dog went into cardiopulmonary compromise and stopped breathing! We believe that if we did not insist on the IV, this would have happened sooner and Dr. Ole would have been too late to revive her.
Also regarding patient care, we noticed that they just leave the dogs in their cages while confined. They let them poo & pee in their cages and they do not clean them immediately. Our dog, having been trained, does not poo or pee in the area where she sleeps. So when we visited her (10-11 hours after we brought her thre), we let her out of her cage and she peed on the floor. That was when we noticed that her urine is too yellow (dark yellow and slightly thick) and that there was too much indicating that she has not peed since we brought her there. In general medicine monitoring urine output is very important and i think it would be the same for veterinary med but they do not seem to put much consideration into this.
Also they took blood for a work up (a very incomplete work up at that) only the next day when we again inquired about what was wrong with her. They still had no idea what was wrong and were only speculating that it might have been an infection. Dr. Ole said that her spleen was enlarged when he looked at the xray from the previous day (the attending doctor totally missed that!) But from my research, an enlarged spleen is still just a symptom & not the main problem. Plus it took 2 days for the blood work to come back with the results (platelets were slightly low, rbc was very low, wbc was normal, that was all and it took forever to get them!) And the doctor on duty needed a book to interpret the results. They said that it was just an infection. But her WBC was normal! It’s the RBC’s that are showing abnormalities! And if it is an infection, i would really like to know what the infection is and how to make her better, not just a “she looks fine now” answer from the vet and more drugs to alleviate her symptoms.
When we asked if more tests need to be done to check if she’s really alright they said that there is no need because she looks “ok” already. But i really do not believe them. I just want to be certain that she will be fine and that her disease/problem is already fixed.
So, please if you are a vet who might be able to help or you know a better doctor, please reply. Thank you so so much! God bless!
-vee
P.S.
Our dog is doing better but she’s still on IV, her eyes are still partially red (although not as bulging anymore), she still seems to experience pain when carried, her urine is still very dark yellow and they are still NOT doing anything to ensure that she is really, truly well.
Hi Vee,
That was a terrible thing for your dog and your family to experience Im only glad na your dog pulled through. If she were my dog I would take her to Vets in Practice in Mandaluyong. I’ve had a lot of pets and gone through A LOT of vets, and you could even call me a bit of a hypochondriac bec. I spend time checking on what the vet did via googling and reading on the net.
We have a cat who is epileptic and it was only with the doctors in VIP where I felt that the doctors knew what they were doing, and cared for the pets. They are one of if not the best vet clinic, and we have been taken care of by Drs. Nick, Nielsen, Siday, Eve, Mike, Marga (most of them hehh) and they are thorough and patient with us and all our questions.
I hope this helps Vee, please let me know how things go.
hi mai,
thanks! we’ll bring her to VIP after a day or so of letting her rest. she really didn’t like being confined.
anyway, i’m not familiar with the layout of mandaluyong, could you please give some directions on how to get to VIP? I’m familiar with Boni ave and the rotonda at the end of it (the one with the eagle). could you please give me directions from there? ^_^ Thank you!!
Hi Vee,
I found this map on the caraphil website (http://www.caraphil.org)
http://www.caraphil.org/images/vetsmap.jpg
vee,
interesting case indeed. your family veterinarian should have done the following - complete hemogram, clinical chemistry (ALT, BUN, creatinine, glucose, calcium, sodium, potassium, etc.) & urinalysis. blood pressure should be checked. ECG or phonocardiogram should be performed! results should be released within the day (for fear that misinterpretation is due to delay in release). for me, it looks like a cardiac case but needs proper tests to be confirmed. i hope you find the right vet for your pet.
gerald
Wow! Thanks a bunch! We’re definitely transferring her (my dog) there tom.
She got confined again last sunday, a day after she was allowed to go home, due to profuse nose bleeding. Then she had another bleed today and they wouldn’t let us see her charts and records! Isn’t it a right of the patient to see their own medical records?!
They have no right to call themselves a Veterinary Hospital! They never even took valid specimens for tests to confirm their “diagnoses” (actually, they sounded more like guesses to us). They took blood for the blood test after she got better/ showed signs of getting better.
Please help pray for her, I hope she does recover for all of this!
Hi,
I was wondering if you know a vet clinic that has a lot of experience with Shar Peis? Specifically their eye issues? I took the numbers from your list (thank you!) that were near my location (project 8, QC) to call them up and inquire but if you can recommend someone, even if the clinic is not in the QC area, that would be great.
Thanks!
Hi JT, I do not know anything about their experiences with Shar Peis. We go to VIP though, and find them very competent.
Sorry I could not help more. Let me know which vet you end up going to and how things go.
Hello Mai,
Great site!
very helpful!! would you know if vets in practice do artificial insemination ( using fresh chilled semen or frozen semen?)
hello mai,
i really have a problem with my cat and its really bothering me right now. i just hope you could help me out.
i have a geriatric cat approximately 8 years old in human calendar, she used to eat frequently and in large amounts. but these past few weeks i noticed that she’s not eating that well. she’s having some hard time chewing the food (oh by the way most of her front teeth are gone), and she’s drooling so much, i dont know why, i’ve done some researches on the internet regarding the said symptoms and i think he has an oral disease but im really not sure. i want to take him to a vet to see what his real condition is and to have him treated for it, but i’m quite afraid of the outcome of it, i fear that it maybe a fatal disease and he may not last long, and im also afraid that the vet and the staff might not treat him well that might lead to his earlier death/
i would like to take him to VIP but its way too far from where we live (we live in san mateo, rizal) can you give me an idea about his condition if it happens you have an idea about it and can you help me on choosing a good vet for him?
oh there is also one problem, i may have a hard time taking him to the vet because i dont have a cage and i fear that he might jump off the tricycle once i bring him to the vet, so do you have any tips on proper handling of cats (can i tie him on his neck just like when we’re carrying dogs, or can i put him in a box??? i really dont have an idea)
please help me out, i really dont know what to do, i know i may have been a careless owner but i really cant lose him please help me…
i hope you could really help me out/ thank you very much
Hi Florence,
I hope you got my email and that you were able to take care of your cat. You know even if I have to travel I would still go to VIP, with my cat in a box with holes (like how chickens sometimes get transported, just tie the box well so the cat cant accidentally get out). I also think they may have some doctors holding clinic in Tiendesitas, so give them a call.
Even if you find out bad news, I really suggest you consult a vet because even if they find there is nothing else they can do they can help ease your cats pain and make him feel better, and in the end I think that is what is important.
Dear Mai,
I am so glad i found your site ,i love my dog so much ( he’s a goldie,3 years old ) and please will you tell me where’s the best vet around alabang or muntinlupa area? regarding some bad experienced from some friends i am a bit concern where to bring my dog for a check up,so far we had a home service vet,but i am not really trust the vet anymore.any recomendation ? Please do email me . Thank you for your kind help X
Hi Elena,
I’m sorry I don’t know any South based vet from experience. We live in Marikina and bring ours to Mandaluyong for VIP. There are some forums like dogtracker.com which have threads on vets and maybe you could check those out and read about people’s experiences taking their pets to vets in your area? Im wary of recommending anyone I havent taken pets to, you see. Good luck, and please let me know who you end up with.
Best
Mai
hi. yesterday while i was on my way to my parents’ house, i happened to stumble across a cute little puppy wandering the streets of our village. i figured that the puppy might have gotten out of its cage or worse, someone might have thrown it away. it is too tiny, that it looked like it’s just a few weeks old. it can’ even walk straight yet. i tried to look for its owner, but nobody’s claiming ownership. A lady even told me to just leave it right there, but thinking that cars might just run over it, i took the puppy home with me.
i don’t know what to do with a newborn puppy, i just fed it some milk. today, he has diarrhea. i brought him to PAWS this morning, but they refused to take him in. They gave me feeding bottles and puppy milk, and said that his diarrhea was caused by the milk (Nido) i fed him yesterday. They said that he’s going to be well this afternoon. BUt he doesn’t look well. his poop is still liquid, almost like water. should i bring him to the vet right now?i dont want the puppy to die. please reply.
P.S.Does anyone know any place where they take in found animals? as much as i want to take care of the puppy, i cannot because i am currently living alone and working. i might just not find time to look after him. please please please.
Are the night vets in Vets in Practice any good? I’ve taken my cat there a few times, but not frequently that I’d have a decent evaluation of their service. My cat ingested half a chocolate chip cookie and I was worried. He didn’t have a reaction–not that I saw anyway. I was out for most of the day, and he ingested the cookie while i was away. Anyway, I got in at around 10pm and noticed that half the cookie was missing (actually, he might have ingested more than half, but I’m not sure as I didn’t keep count of how many cookies there were left in the container). I called VIP right away to ask their professional opinion and it was the night vet who entertained my call.
Hi Tricia,
Glad to hear you’re fostering the puppy! I would love to hear how you’re doing!
Hi JC,
I’m not sure who the night vet is, but we’ve taken some pets to VIP late at night and even when it was just the caretaker in (I dont think they had designated night vets at that time) the caretaker would call the vet in. Sorry I cant help more, but let me know what you think of them.
Hi,
I have a 4year old shihtzu and just discovered that he has a cataract. Do you know how much is the operation going to cost me or if there is medication that can cure it without having an operation. thanks!
I’m not sure how much it would cost, honestly. But we had a dog with glaucoma and we took her to Vets in Practice (call before you take your dog because the eye doctor may not be in every day). I think we could not afford the operation but the doctor gave us drops for our dogs eyes. She went blind and sort of bumps and walks beside walls in the house, but I think she’s adjusted to not seeing. She just tries to walk near my dad all the time.
Try setting an appointment and ask about what your options would be.
thank you very much! i bookmarked your page so if i have a problem on my dog i would easily view your site =D
i agree with you vee! vets here in cainta is just good for vaccines, otherwise, they all suck. for instance, i brought my lovely dog to this certain vet here in cainta, (our lady of assumption, near brookside, cainta) unfortunately, they made his simple medicated bath into a complicated worst scenario! instead of him being well, they almost cooked the dog’s testes wihtout precaution! and because of that i spend another 7,500 for the surgery but i brought him to the best vet in mandaluyong..but very costly. so, beware! dont bring your lovely pets in this vet clinics. they’re the worst! also at OLE vet cainta, all the dogs that we brought there, were killed, unfortunately, we don’t know how they treat our animals..
Well Wiz, I wouldn’t really generalize that all Cainta vets suck. If you have actual experience with some of them then you can give your opinion on those (which you did, above) …but it does no good to make a sweeping statement. With that said, I’d still take my pets to our trusted vets. I am not saying the ones we go to know everything ha, just that they try to be thorough and treat the animals with respect and care.
I do sympathize about your dog though, glad you took him to a better vet. I hope he’s doing better.
HELPPPPP!!!! my dog has flea infestation!!! i have tried everything from flea collars, flea powder, flea soap and shampoo to the bayer flea and tick spray and nothing seems to be working, in fact the fleas are getting bigger (Read: raisin-sized) already, are there any affordable home service vets you guys can recommend? Furthermore, what could KILL all those fleas? Ive heard of a 3-in-1 injection with flea control but i am not too familiar with the details,PLEASE HELP, my 1 year old poodle seems to be getting weaker. Snifffff..
We use medicine called Frontline which is a liquid in a phial that you place on the dog’s “nape” and that keeps our pets flea-free for a couple months. It’s not cheap but really effective and if you’ve been trying a lot of stuff that doesn’t work then you may want to try this na. Not sure where you live and I don’t really have any home service vets in mind but again would recommend that you try calling Vets in Practice (I also highlighted some other vets who I’ve heard good things about — but not personally dealt with — in my list above)
Good luck.
Hi,
I was just wondering if you knew any good vets that take care of rabbits. My rabbit has a wound on its leg and it seems to be limping. :<
Well I always recommend Vets in Practice, who we are happy with.
Good evening, my labrador met an accident a couple of weeks ago. She was hit and ran by a car. We took her to the Animal house and had her confined for back injury/ trauma for 4 days. She has a problem moving her hind legs the doctor prescribed her prednisone and jetepar for liver protection. Im having trouble administering these meds to her. And lately she refuses to eat from my palms as she’s afraid I might give her medicines instead of food She wouldnt eat from her plate either. Would you know any vet who performs homeopathic treatment such as accupuncture? My mobile number is 09162358119. Thanks so much.
Hi Ninya,
Have you tried “disguising” the medicines in some chunk of meat or peanut butter? Try doing a search on giving dogs medicines. I don’t know of a vet who practices homeopathic treatments…sorry, but if you hear of one can you let me know?
You could also try emailing paws or the whatsuppaws yahoogroup. They may know someone…
Good luck
Good pm!! I bought calyx yesterday he is already 2mos old shih. I’m just wondering if anyone here knows of vet clinic near hear in San Andres Malate. how much it would cost for his check up? just to make sure calyx is healthy please give me the number of their clinic so i can contact them. thanks in advance! more power..
Hi KC,
Just go through the list and see which is near you I really dont have first hand experience with any vet in your area. Baka try calling Vets in Practice they have a branch na yata in the Makati / Manila area.
Also give the clinic a call to ask for an estimate, they should be able to give you a price for a checkup and shots.
Please post back once youve visited someone and let me know how things went so people get feedback

Hi. I’d just like to share that a newly opened pet clinic (named NOAH’S ARK) (next to Pet Haven, at the top of PCCI)has CRAZY VETS and CRAZY POLICIES! DO NOT, BY ALL MEANS BRING YOUR PET THERE. THEY’LL ROB YOU OFF YOUR MONEY AND YOUR PET WILL DIE ANYWAY.
My beagle started vomitting so much that he stopped eating. He also had severe diarrhea. We just bought him from a breeder a week before, so it was strange how he got sick so quickly because we did not take him out of the house yet. (He still had to be vaccinated).
Since the vet was open 24 hours, we took the beagle there and the vet would not treat him until we signed papers that stated something like, ‘If your pet dies while at this clinic, you cannot sue us.’ (INSANE RIGHT?) But they would not admit him till we did. So we signed the papers, and less then five minutes after observing him, the vet announced, ‘It’s PARVO.’
We didn’t know what that was at the time, but when we were told what it was we were so shocked. It was like the puppy had no hope. And what’s crazy is that no blood tests, stool tests, or whatever tests were performed. We were ignorant and we were desperate, so whatever the vet would say, we believed it to be true. THREE different vets treated our beagle, and they all didn’t know what they were doing!!!
They put our beagle on an IV, and when we told the vet that it had not been vaccinated, the vet just injected him right then and there. (The 5 in 1 vaccine that they usually give puppies). We learned later on, that when a pet is sick, it CANNOT be vaccinated.
Our beagle died the morning after from excessive medicines they plugged down his system.
I’m soooo mad. The worst part is, I cannot sue them because of those stupid papers. They also charge ridiculous prices. For a house call, they will charge 500- 1000 PLUS pesos, and you have to PICK THEM UP! WTF!!!!! (Not including the crappy treatment that they will do for your pet). TThey also charged us 500 bucks for Nutrigel, as compared to other clinics where Nutrigel is sold for only 390 bucks.
We got new beagles from the same breeder after the death of the last one, and they had the same sickness. When we took them to the UP Vet, the vets told us (after tests were performed) that the dogs had hepatozoonosis from parasites, (gotten from kuto). It has the same symptoms as parvo, but the puppy has a higher chance of survival as compared to parvo.
I hope NOAH’S ARK PET CLINIC goes out of business. I really do.
hi! i just had my very first own pet, a very cute and sweet shih tzu! sam (my tzu’s name) is an 8 mos old pup…the old owner was the one grooming him and it was quite horrible how they cut his hair… i would like to bring him to a reputable grooming pet salon, is there any place here in manila/q.c where he could finally be groomed properly? If it’s not too much to ask as well, do you know how much it cost? Thank you! i would really appreciate all the info that you can share! thanks! One more thing, can you send it at my email? Thanks!
hi! i just want to thank you as i followed your advise in calling vets in practice and they referred me to their affiliate vet clinic in cartimar pasay where its closest to where i stay in malate. i have to bring my cat to the vet as he hasnt been eating in the last few days, and has obviously lost weight and acting very poorly. ive been looking all over online for a vet clinic in the malate/ermita area but sadly there is none. no, sorry let me correct that, found two but both are useless… one - malate pet doctors - i think doesnt exist anymore but the listing is still there. the no. listed is now in use by another party. the other - animal yard - is in business but there is no doctor until the 12th of jan. why arent there any more vets in the area?!! don’t pet owners who live here bring their pets to the doctor ever??! anyway, i’m taking wushi my cat to the vet in a bit, im worried he’d get worse if i leave him unattended by a vet for a long time, carveldon is the clinic name and its in cartimar… thats the closest i suppose if i dont find any thats local.., if anyone knows of one in this area, i would really appreciate it if you could share the info… let u know what happens to my cat… thanks again, mai!
hello! do you have the cell number of Dr. Michael Velhagen of vets in practice. I would like to ask him a very big favor for my shih tzu dog BILLY. Agree, its really hard to find a vet you feel you can trust Connie. please let me know how things go.

Hi, I have 2 hamsters living in the same cage. The female scratched the male and left a bloddy wound on his right eye and blinded the left one. He is limping now. Please help me, I love Potchi and Peachy so much.:(
Stacey,
Sorry but what sort of help do you want? Is there not an entire list of vet clinics written here?
If you want a suggestion re who to contact and you’ve gone through the comments you will read that I really prefer to send to Vets in Practice.
If you’re thinking there is anything more to gain by waiting you may have not just a blind, but a very sick hamster. :S
after reading your blog i was inclined & tempted for a second vet opinion regarding my dog shar-pei’s both eyes and i am happy i have googled up and read your blog.
i live at binangonan rizal and the vets diagnosis seems like just an observation of his 3rd lid and was given tears naturelle which cost around P300++.
after reading your blog i opted for another vets opinion..i went to “vets in practice”. and true to your experience and word Diego 3mos. old, my pet dog has “entropion”. Diego has big ulcerations on both eyes he will go blind…right there and there he was operated both eyes…i am so happy he is recovering good right now and can see.
surgery costs was reasonable and affordable in my opinion and yes like what mai said VIP really cares & loves dogs.
i have never seen so much variety of dogs in their clinic.
kudos to Dr. Donato of VIP..the best vet i have ever seen! kudos to spacemai blog!!
i love you guys!
Hi! What’s your opinion of Makati Dog & Cat Hospital? Are they any good? I had to bring my puppy there the other day (I didn’t know where Vets in Practice was until someone somewhere mentioned the old open canal in Mandaluyong). They seemed okay but what do I know, I’m a new pet owner. I’d like to know if I should change vets. Thanks!
hi.. may i ask how much VIP charges for a consultation? or even a confinement?
thank you very much…
hi!
how much consultation fee sa VIP?
lam nyo din ba around how much rate nila pg i-confine doggie (Labrador)?
thank you..
Hershey - You’re best off giving them a call and asking
Sorry Rogelio, I cannot help much. We prefer going to VIP, but YMMV.
I used to go there when I lived in Makati, and I think they were ok, but expensive…and this was a very long ago. There is also a vet review thread on dogtracker.com that you may want to check out.
Hi! My dog has been sick for 2 weeks now. Wala siyang breed (aka: askal).
Please help..
Jeezus what the hell are you doing writing comments here when your dog is dying? I am NOT a vet, and it is a vet you should see, immediately. You’re right your dog will probably die, if you want to make a last ditch effort bring him to a vet. If this happens next time maybe you should wait a bit less before bringing him. If money is an issue call PAWS they could probably suggest a vet.
Poor doggie.
Hi Mai,
Just an update on the puppy I wrote about a while back. Turns out he has distemper. I’ve been to VIP and Animal House since then trying to find a way to make him better. I thought he’d survived the worst; he gained weight, his appetite was back, and while he had hacking attacks, he’d sometimes play again.
But over the weekend he got worse. He had seizures, became wobbly and his front paws started to look weird. And he hasn’t been able to move his bowels since yesterday. I spoke to an Animal House vet on the phone (I haven’t been able to get through to VIP) who said to try giving him laxative. I don’t know if it’s worked yet (had to go to the office).
Would you, or anyone in this site, know if I should give up on him? I don’t want to but it might be cruel to the little fellow. And another question: If worse comes to worst, would anybody know how soon I can get another puppy? I’ve read info that says the virus hangs around for up to 8 months, but others say it can’t survive outside a dog’s body for more than 30 minutes. I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks.
hi mai! this is angel, the owner of axle..the very sick cat who seizured due to hypoglycemia…I’m just happy to update you that he is super healthy and ok na. I was so hysterical and unhappy when I messaged you here before. I was super worried he wasn’t going to make it. He apparently has a metabolic bone disease and will need supplements for life. But other than that he is a super normal and makulit na 4 month old kitten. I am so glad Dr. Donato treated him, I dont think i’ll trust the other vets there as much. Like you I am super paranoid and about my kitty’s health =)
So glad to hear Axle is doing fine
and its good that you were able to find out what was causing the seizures, makes things much easier to manage. We never did find out what causes my cat’s seizures so its more difficult to deal with. Dr. Donato is really great nga daw. I too do not feel kampante until I feel na the vet is on the ball and really concerned about my pets.
By the way, do you know or does anyone here know of a vet who can neuter kittens at 5 mos.? di kasi pwede sa VIP and sa CARA, dati sa CARA there was a vet who can do it but that vet left for australia na according to kate. Help please! I read somewhere kasi na mas better to get them neutered when younger kasi mas madali maka recover and they look more kitten-like din.
Sorry Angel I don’t, we had our cats fixed at VIP (and a few at the PARC Neuter Spay events). Maybe you can try the whatsuppaws egroup the members may know a vet who does that. The egroup url is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/whatsuppaws/
ok, thanks!
Hi, I’m Shiela. A few ago, I just received a red eared slider. I think he has an eye infection since there looks like a light layer of cotton on his eyes. Im giving him salt water baths to kill the infection and would observe the result of this treatment. If he doesn’t get better, I’m planning to take him on a vet.
Would someone recommend me a vet clinic near Quezon city area that has experience on reptiles. Thank you very much.
It’s good you put up a list of vet clinics in the Philippines. It’s just so hard to find them these days.
I received a rabbit for Christmas who was weak and looked sick. Two days after, she lay on her back having trouble breathing. I remember carrying her to every single vet I could find before it was too late. One clinic said the doctor was out and the other one said that they only took care of dogs and cats. And then I brought home my poor rabbit where she finally passed away.
Are there any nearby vets in Quezon City for small mammals like rabbits? It’s so hard to find one these days…
Shiela - I may sound redundant, but I would go to Dr. Donato of VIP, he is supposedly familiar with exotic pets.
Fonqui - Unfortunately a lot of the rabbits who are sold are bred irresponsibly (hence some birth defects) or sold too young. That happens, esp. during easter time. Its really sad nga. I do not know of any rabbit breeders talaga, are you planning to get another?
Re vets, I would say VIP pa din, maybe try looking at forums like dogtracker, or maybe you could get the opinion of people from paws or caraphil? Let me know if you need their general contact info.

anyone can suggest a vet. that knows treatment of reptiles illness? specially a turtles? aquatic type…thanks.
@Rogelio - I have been to Dog & Cat several times because my house is a few steps from theirs, Animal House Jupiter, and VIP. Dog & Cat is the closest to me.
The D&C vets, when asked, seem to look like they are not confident about their answers or worse, they look LIKE they do not know the answer to your questions at all when consulted and you will feel like your money is at waste when consulting them. But in fairness to them, my dog had undergone all kinds of sickness, accident, poisoning, ehrlichia, near death experiences and now, an enlarged heart. All of those sickness, they have made my dog well so I salute and still htank them for saving my dog’s life. In terms of skin sickness like allergy, ear infection, etc, I go to Animal House in Jupiter since they are good when it comes to that sickness (hehe pagdating sa eye infection, galis etc, nako tataas ang dugo mo sa dog n cat walang masasagot) period but I agree when they say VIP is really good. I also brought my dog there for an operation. I entrust my dog to Dog anc cat 24/7, trhy may not look like capable but they really are.
VIP - Donato wins but tfar from me.
I say when it comes to expenses, parepareho lang silang mahal he he he.
I would say that VIP is the most expensive at all but I say your dogs are in good hands with them and you need not worry.
Mai - may i know if they have vets watching the dog 10pm onwards?

I am not familiar with QC vets, maybe try UP Vet Med? Or try calling PAWS they may recommend a vet
Batchi,
Dr. Donato of Vets in Practice is said to be good with exotic animals

Many many years ago I lived in Makati and would take the dogs to Dog and Cat, was not too pleased with how my animals were treated. It was evident to me that there was not what you would call “simpatya” for the pets. Well that was a long time ago and I have no idea how they are now. Hopefully they are competent and worth it. And I am glad your dog is ok, my friend’s dog had erlichia and it took visits to more than 1 vet for them to figure out what it was (dog ended up in VIP)
We used to bring one of our cats to the clinic in the middle of the night (epileptic cat with bad seizures) and there was always someone watching the animals. Not always a vet though. Once we had a cat who was bleeding from a popped spay incision and they did call a vet in to do surgery in the middle of the night.
Anyone know of a good vet clinic in Manila that specializes in birds like mynah? Thank you!
mai
which clinic are you referring to in ur 2nd paragraph? dnc ba?
well I rushed my dog to VIP earlier today hehe di na ko nakatiis though DNC is literally a few steps away from me. My dog didnt sleep the whole night and was shaking and drooling, it was because pala of dehydration due to meds prescribed but the meds were correct naman, just the side effects. I just figured out kung anong wala sila, na meron and VIP (asiewd of course for the sympathetic vets)- instant lab results within minutes whereas in DNC, you get the results after hours, and if ur unlucky, the next day so it’s hard for the vets there to pinpoint the culprit.
Maybe the vets in DNC look like stoic lang talaga hehe. Ayoko na mamintas kasi they saved the life of my dog several times and I can’t thank them enough.
But kanina, kahit nangingisay na dog ko, sinugod ko na talaga sa VIP kahit malayo and rainy. I think he is okay now.
Sikret
The 2nd paragraph refers to VIP. Sorry about the confusion. I hope your dog is doing better.
Mona,
Maybe someone else will respond. If you’ve read through all the comments you will notice I always recommend VIP.
mai,
DNC says my dog has enlarged heart and so as the 3 vip vets say but doc D of VIP says it’s usual for small breeds to have large hearts and says that the cause of pain, which I believed, is the spine. I believed him and took my dog off the heart meds, which should have been lifetime medicines. So done with the spine problem and now I am confused with the heart prob. Just got the ECG from DNC and all vets reviewed the findings and say he has enlarged left ventricle, which one should I believe? Should I get a 3rd opinion?!!! confuuuuusssing. that is my 2nd priority but my first priority is take him off Rimadyl which was prescribed by VIP after reading this..
_http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/pets-and-animals/rimadyl-carprofen/reviews/
But still thanks to vip for pinpoitning the cause, it’s just that the med is making him throw up since last night for the Nth time now, I hope it’s not yet too late. The reviews are scary so advise to those dogs on Rimadyl and the symptoms are visible. enuf said, i just hope my one and only survives.
I have just discovered this site when i was searching for exotic vets for my rabbit. I want to agree with the comments about OLE clinic. I have heard lots and lots of bad dog-handling cases in that said clinic. And yes, all dogs die. I am from Cainta thats why I know. Fortunately, I found Petcare clinic who would take good care of your pets. They charge in a very reasonable price too. Thats the only clinic where I would bring my babies to. So sad they cant handle rabbits (at least they were honest enough). Anyway, can someone recommend a good vet for my rabbit? She is in need of medical attention AsAP
please help!

I had my yorkie checked up with my vet here in Dasma, Cavite (Dr. Nuguit) earlier this week because I noticed she doesn’t eat anything at all. She’s always hand-fed, but now she really doesn’t eat anymore. It all started last Monday when our stairs was being painted. I was not at home that time. That night, Fifi (my yorkie) started snoring as if he’s nose is blocked and she keeps on breathing through her mouth. When i brought her to my vet, she said Fifi doesn’t have any colds or flu but just that blockage in her nose. She then referred Dr. Nielsen Donato to me. So tomorrow i will be bringing her there since I’m on my way to Marikina. Cause i’m so worried with her already, she’s very thin and malnourished, i could feel her ribs and spine.
She’s not like that before.. she’s a very healthy pup, but now i really don’t know what to do.
I’ve read some of your blogs and reply on some issues about dogs, it seems that VIP is your prefered clinic to refer to but may i comment on some notes you have? i ve been to VIP because of your suggestion but in my opinion all vets are just the same, willing to treat pet that are sick, no special about VIP, they just prescribed what my pet need, just the same as other vets, but one thingt i assure you our vets is better because they can tell you what is wrong with your pet in tagalog, it seems that in VIP no one knows how to speak tagalog, are they all foreigner? It just irritates me.
try dra. lorna g. sicam in kamuning quezon city
she’s the best
I brought my cat with a growth on his neck to VIP because of the good recommendations I read on this site about VIP. They took some samples of his tumor for biopsy. I was told that it would take 10 days for the biopsy results to come out. It’s been 29 days and the result still hasn’t come out. I’m getting really frustrated with them. Everytime I call them to ask for an update, I always get the same answer- that they will call the laboratory to follow it up. Good thing my cat is okay, aside from his “bukol”, he acts normally, as if he’s not sick at all. So now I don’t know whether to continue waiting (I already paid for the biopsy, by the way) or just ask for a refund and go to a different vet altogether.
Do any of you know the doctors in VIP? I hope someone can help me call their attention regarding this.
Nancy - I was born and raised in Manila but I speak English much better than Filipino. You may also get irritated with me heeh. I hope your pets are better, stay with the vets you are most comfortable and confident in.
Twice - I heard she is good nga
Grace - I think that is far too long to wait. I don’t know the doctors personally (only as the vets of our pets), but if I were you I would insist on speaking with a doctor, thats the least they can do for you after having you wait so long.
Sheena I am sorry to get to the comments so late. I hope your dog is better
Hi Mai,
I know this is a pretty old post but thought to share our horror story with Animal Clinic in Pasig Blvd.
I used to take my beagle there as a puppy, they are open 24 hours and is near our residence. A few weeks after taking my beagle home (he was about 3 months old), he started defecating blood. In panic, my husband and I took him to Animal Clinic immediately and they tested him for all sorts of things. He tested negative for Parvo and Protozoa but they injected him with antibiotics against it anyway. They prescribed Mondex (which he actually didn’t need) and LC Scour (anti-diarrheal) with instructions to feed only bland diet (Prescription Diet i/d - for gastrointestinal problems) for the next four days. Less than two days later, he was back defecating blood and also started vomiting, we took him to Animal Clinic yet again and requested that he be confined so that he could stay properly hydrated with an IV-line. They confined him alright but proceeded to inject him DAILY (for three days on top of the shots he got 2 days prior to confinement)with antibiotics for Protzoa and Parvovirus even if he tested negative every time. Before even discovering their antics, I was already very unhappy with their services. Their version of “confinement” was to box him in a dank and dirty little corner in the examination area next to another dog confined for Kennel Cough (highly contagious). 12 hours into his stay, I visited them and requested they move him to a better location. They said they would but never did. I visited every few hours like clockwork and 2 nights into his stay there, finally made the decision to have him discharged against medical advice (they STILL didn’t know what was wrong with him and were very grim about his status). I figured, if he was gonna go, he would go peacefully at home with me there. So, I took my boy home. For 1 full month,I watched him like a hawk. Took him off everything he was ingesting prior to the incidents (food, treats, supplements), hydrated with Pedialyte, gave anti-diarrheal meds, kept him in a sterile environment, and fed only bland diet. Lo and Behold he got better. Nearly 2 years later, we still don’t know what really happened. Our current vet thinks it may have been Coronavirus and based on what I’ve read online, it does sound like it. I went back to Animal Clinic (a few months after he got better)to tell them what it may have been and they DID NOT KNOW ABOUT CORONAVIRUS. At least, not at that time.
Also, from the day I took him home, my beagle seemed to have an issue with his right eye (easily inflamed, leaky). I regularly asked them what it was and their answer was dismissive: tear stains. Turns out, he had Entropion. Had it not been for trusty google and our new (and current) vet, my dog probably would have lived the rest of his life in discomfort and eventual blindness. When he hit a year old, we had the Entropion surgery done and had him neutered (which Animal Clinic did not recommend because he’s guapo daw. WTF?).
Anyway, 1 year later, I rescued and adopted a terribly neglected Labrador. Animal Clinic in Pasig Blvd was her vet at that time so I figured it was best to pay them a visit to consult with them regarding her medical history before taking her home. She (the rescue) was malnourished, had the runs, and had severe skin problems (wounds, pus, and bald spots all over her face, chin, legs, and paws). I asked the vet on duty to perform a scraping and advice on how to proceed (the former owners were extremely ignorant and very unhelpful). I was, after all, terrified she might be contagious. You know what the vet said? Fatten her up first. When she’s fat, take her back here in a couple of months and let’s see about the skin. WTF? What kind of doctor, animal or otherwise, is dismissive towards blatant problems like that? Oh, I know, Doctors who don’t care.
Anyway, sorry about the very long comment/rant. I just find it very important for people to know about this sort of thing. Maybe it’s just me but I find it terrifying when you know more than your dog’s vet. To cap off this comment on a pleasant note, my beagle is now nearly two and he’s healthy as a horse. Ditto for my rescued Labrador. She’s been with us for nearly 5 months now and is completely rehabilitated (with a little more fattening up to go). After that, spaying when the holidays are over.
Do you know a good vet that specializes in persian cats who lives in Paranaque?
CC - I have to say that I can relate with how you feel about Animal Clinic :S I only wonder how other less questioning owners have had their pets not get better/get worse. I’m glad your dogs are better
Epie - not firsthand sorry. Maybe go through the list or the comments. Good luck
Makati Dog and Cat Hospital staff and care is highly recommendable based on our experience. We are from La Union and about two weeks ago, we took our 2 chow chows to their hospital. One is sick with growth on his butt and it had been bleeding for more than a month. We also took his twin brother as support and our veterinarian in La Union. WHen we arrived, the staff and Dr Enrique Carlos are already waiting for us. Our dog was checked immediately and since our dog is 12 years old, surgery was not recommended. Dr Carlos made another suggestion and it was done immediately the following day and he was with us all through out the treatment. WE were able to go back to La Union on same day. After four days, Dr Enrique Carlos called us in La Union checking on the status of our dog. He is really a very caring veterinarian. He made a follow up call even if it is long distance. That TLC is seldom done by most practicing doctors. He gave us the time and explanation on what is going on. Hope we have more vets like him. His staff are also exceptionally good. I highly recommend them as your pets are in good hands with their care and treatment.
Dr. Donato has a clinic in congressional unfortunatelt i cant find the location and the telephone is always busy. i wonder if they still have the clinic because my rabbit, Buster is sick for 4 days now. he eats little and seems sad. mai, do you know Dr. Donato’s no.? i just need to talk to him so he can give me his clinic at proj. 8.
Buster sorry I dont have the number, maybe call VIP and ask them they should have the info.
Hi, thanks for these info, its really helpful.
Btw, would anyone direct me to where I can buy cheap meds? My dog is under Deoxycyline medication for having blood parasites, she was diagnosed just last week. She’s using VibraVet 100mg but its P50/pc. baka may alam kau na nagbebeta ng mas mura pro authentic na VibraVet please help… Thanks a bunch!
