I almost missed my plane for SF because we passed by the office so I could say goodbye to the office cats….and my dad accidentally locked us out WITH MY HANDCARRY BAGGAGE LOCKED INSIDE!!!
You should have seen his face when he slammed the door and realized this heehee. I couldn’t get mad because I was half amused and half pitying him :P. We had to call a locksmith because I had to be at the airport at 9am and it was already that time — no time to drive all the way back to Marikina to get the spare key.
It took the locksmith forever, and even I was beginning to panic a bit. Damn we installed heavy duty locks when we moved into the new office and I never thought it was I that was going to get screwed. After a while the locksmith proposed to remove the entire lockset and I was thinking “you goddam dumbass, you should have given that option 1 hour ago”
I finally got to check in at 11am (for my 12:15 flight!!!) and thankfully was on the plane without anything more than a headache from the stress. The flight from Korea (stopover) to SF was a bit more annoying thanks to the lady next to me who had seemed to douse on an entire bottle of cheap strong perfume (I remember my mom once got a bottle of some horrible perfume called, of all things, Priscilla Presley, and this smelled exactly like the fucker beside me) Imagine 10 hours of that torture. Thankfully I fell asleep for most of the flight (passed out more like it hee).
Surprisingly, there was no queue at SF Immigration, so after a quick interview and inspection of my baggage (Do you have food in your baggage? Yes, lots of mangoes, chichacorn, sardines…..), I stepped out into the Arrivals Lounge and waited for J.

It’s good to be back with J. < Sappy attack> I’ll always love Manila, but home is where the husband is < / Sappy attack>

I can’t believe we’ve been married for 1 year already. Time’s really flown. Maybe it seems so short because we were not together for most of that 1 year… It’s been great though, not as terrifying to be together as I had thought. I thought there would be quite a lot of arguments and adjustments but we’ve been sailing pretty smoothly. Baka it is also because we’re not young kids anymore, so there’s not much drama and more easy conversation and pretty painless adjustment (for me at least…I think J is still in shock to have my underwear and other thingamajigs flooding the bathroom heehe)

J and I celebrated by having dinner at Gary Danko’s, which is supposedly one of SF’s better restaurants. J booked dinner about mid-December, and it may seem like such a long wait but I think it’s really worth the effort. Dinner was nice with a lot of handholding and smiling, but you’re not interested in that.
Here’s the lowdown on the food

Seared Foie Gras with Caramelized Red Onions, Roasted Grapes and Fuji Apples
Ayay, this came first and it almost made my eyes pop out. A large chunk of the yummiest fattiest meltiest foie gras on a bed of caramelized onions, with fruit on the side. Even those tiny green unidentifiable leaves were delicious. After tasting the dish I thought, “they can serve shit next, I don’t care. This makes the entire dinner worth it”

and Lemon Soy Dressing

Edamame Beans and Tarragon
J ordered this. Delicious, the sauce was so mild and creamy, and who thought soybeans could be so delicious. I don’t usually like lobster but this was marvelous.

and Périgord Black Truffles

Baked Chocolate Soufflé with Two Sauces
This was delicious. Not too sweet, very fluffy. The sauces were a vanilla cream sauce and a belgian chocolate sauce that the waiter dripped into the center.

Lemon Souffle’ Cake with Cream-cheese Raspberry Ice Cream

After dessert, the waiter brought over a small plate of petit fours and told us “Happy Anniversary”. Neat! I think Gary Danko’s is a great place for special celebrations (a great place to eat all the time if you’re rich or spendy). They even gave us some Pineapple Cake (”For breakfast tomorrow”) and packets of truffles when we were leaving. The place is packed, but the tables aren’t so close together so you don’t feel claustrophobic, or annoyed because you can hear the conversation from the next table. The waitpersons aren’t snooty either, so I loved that.
Sana we have our anniversary dinner at this place every year

Packing is harder then I thought, so I’ll end this here. More later.
