No offense…

Don’t you notice that whenever someone says that they usually follow up with something insulting or offensive?

“No offense ha, pero the way you act…it’s just so jologs”

Everytime I feel the urge to say “No offense” I stop myself because I know I really mean to say something nasty.

What I like about San Francisco

  • There are rolls of tissue paper in every public toilet (and most even have those toilet seat liners), goodbye Wet Ones
  • You can cross the street confidently — ok, some people have been hit/run over, I even heard that a lady was killed by a cable car today :( SLN….but, in general the pedestrian (thats me) is king.
  • There is water all the time (hot AND cold)
  • You can wear coats and other clothing items you would get sneered at for wearing in Manila
  • You never sweat (except in the yoga studio)
  • You don’t really need a car — a you need is a monthly bus pass and a MUNI map, and you’re good to go
  • There are such varied nationalities here you never feel like an outcast.
  • There are museums, galleries, and parks all around
  • Cherries cost around 2-3 dollars a pound
  • You see beautiful flowers and trees along the street (I love this cherry blossom tree near the house. I wish we had one in our backyard. Heh, I wish we had a backyard)
  • People where we live are friendly.
  • I’ve made some pretty good friends.
  • The husband is here.
  • And….tadah!!! the FOOD the FOOD…more restaurants, bakeries, and shops than I could gobble through in a year. It seems that almost every street has a little tummy treasure tucked somewhere.

Pearls from the mouth of Ms. Celia Rodriguez

If I were to compare the stars of my era with the star discoveries of Dr. Rey dela Cruz, it would be like placing the Taj Majal of India side by side with a Volkswagen.

Romeo and Juliet, and other angsty songs

I’ve been listening to the Dire Straits’ Romeo and Juliet quite a lot lately. You know the song? It’s one of those songs - you know, those songs you listen to wasted and holding a cigarette when your heart is broken.

I’m quite partial to the Indigo Girls version because when you hear Amy Ray sing the song it just feels like her heart is being ripped out (hee).

I used to listen to these types of songs a long, long time ago. I was unceremoniously dumped (ouch) and it hurt like a motherfucker. I would get though the day in school fully tanked and reeking of cigarettes, and would spend my sleepless nights listening to music like this song (and Every Rose Has Its Thorn - hahaha I can laugh about it now but at that time it was the great-mai-solo-pity-party.)

And it’s funny, because I am pretty sure everyones got a couple songs like these. Sappy, angry, whatever. They always bring back memories.

Romeo and Juliet by the Dire Straits

A lovestruck romeo sings a streetsus serenade
Laying everybody low with me a lovesong that he made
Finds a convenient streetlight steps out of the shade
Says something like you and me babe how about it ?

Juliet says hey it’s romeo you nearly gimme a heart attack
He’s underneath the window she’s singing hey la my boyfriend’s back
You shouldn’t come around here singing up at people like that
Anyway what you gonna do about it ?

Juliet the dice were loaded from the start
And I bet and you exploded in my heart
And I forget the movie song
When you wanna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet ?

Come up on differents streets they both were streets of shame
Both dirty both mean yes and the dream was just the same
And I dreamed your dream for you and your dream is real
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals ?

Where you can fall for chains of silver you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything you promised me think and thin
Now you just says oh romeo yeah you know I used to have a scene with him

Juliet when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above I’ll love you till I die
There’s a place for us you know the movie song
When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet ?

I can’t do the talk like they talk on tv
And I can’t do a love song like the way it’s meant to be
I can’t do everything but I’d do anything for you
I can’t do anything except be in love with you

And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
All do is keep the beat and bad company
All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme
Julie I’d do the stars with you any time

Juliet when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above I’ll love you till I die
There’s a place for us you know the movie song
When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet ?

A lovestruck romeo sings a streetsus serenade
Laying everybody low with me a lovesong that he made
Finds a convenient streetlight steps out of the shade
Says something like you and me babe how about it ?
