Sarap to the Toes

Still on a shopping roll, I bought another pair of slippers - the Brasils.

I get quite a lot of mockery for spending on my flipflops, but they’re really soft and comfy, my feet are happy, and so am I.

My Girly Bag

Just right for my phone (construction doesn’t stop just because the project manager is getting married heeh), mints, a lipstick, my nasal inhaler (for times of stress), some headache pills.

And my cigarettes, of course.

Bare Bones

Sometimes when I get overwhelmed with all the details related to planning our wedding I remember what I told my mom early on, when I was getting railroaded into wearing a fluffy dress, inviting tons of people, wearing a fake hair bun (!), having tons of flowers, and doing this and that because “that’s the way things need to happen”.

The only thing that “needs to happen” is Jo and me getting married. Everything else is icing on the cake.

Snippets

This is actually the 2nd time I am making this entry. There was a Firefox error while I was writing the original. And. Everything. I. Wrote. Was. Erased.

Finally set the Prenup Photo / Video Shoot date for Sunday, 13 Feb 2005.

Both Pilar and Bong say that’s cutting it kinda close…but what choice have we? Jo’s preparing the storyboard(! - nyar, I hope it is nothing too dramatic) and we’re thinking of having the shoot at either UP, Intramuros, or La Vista Park.

If Joel really wants to have the prenups in Intramuros, then we would need to move the shoot to 15 Feb, as Pilar says it gets pretty crowded on weekends.

Alex isn’t at the salon on Sundays or Tuesdays. I hope I can request for him to come in for the trial makeup.

Speaking of Alex, I got my hair cut and colored by him last Friday. At last, some semblance of style on the horsetail broom I call my hair.

Alex generally maintained the length of my hair, but now it looks like a cut that was meant to be, instead of a pitiful attempt to grow my hair long enough to pull back for the wedding.

I’ve got highlights now, and am really quite pleased with them. They’re a big change from my last highlight job (ash blonde allover color with platinum highlights!!! Imagine? on me, a total Indio??? People would call me “ulo mais” yuk)

Alex said that he would pull my hair back and tie it low, and scatter a couple Swarowski crystal clips around. I also heard him muttering to my hair “please….please….grow” hehehe.

When I got the bill I had a discount of a couple hundred bucks. Ayyy, I love Alex. How wonderful to get a discount when I am cruising on my last money.

I was at Malate yesterday and decided to drop by Firma to check out the stuff. They’ve got a lot of beautiful bags, shawls, and feather brooches / hairpieces in. I bought a tiny gold beaded bag for the wedding and it is so pretty I can’t stop looking at it. It matches the shoes I bought perfectly - both have pale pink beads / crystals on them and they look like they are part of a set. Galing!

I also got a discount from Dennis, one of the owners, because I’m getting married. Woohoo!.

Firma is opening at the 4/F of Rustan’s Makati on 01 December so check them out because the new accessories are DA BOMB! Go at once though, as they’ve only got 2 of each piece.

More discounts and freebies pa:

Berts and I had pasta at Cosa Nostra (4 cheese fettucine for her, spaghetti with anchovies and white truffle oil for me), and decided to head on over to Blue Frog, as Berts was craving for their Roquefort Salad (apples, lettuce, roquefort cheese, walnuts, and grapeseed oil). I ordered a French Onion Soup as I was feeling a bit full already.

They served me a creamy soup, and I was initially suspicious (onion soup? creamy???) but my stomach got the better of me and I tried a bit of it. Yummy! I scarfed it down quickly and was pretty pleased with it. The waiter went near us with a worried face and apologised profusely as it turned out that they had served me the Potato and Leek Soup instead. I said it was ok, as the soup was delicious, but they insisted on giving us a bowl of onion soup free of charge.

We walked around a bit and decided to have dessert and tea at Portico. I tried the Coffee Bean Sans Rival. Holy crap it was a may Diyos moment…the bastard child of their incomparable Coffee Pie and a Sans Rival.

The waitress said she noticed that we always had dessert there, and gave me a discount card. So I left Portico with a happy stomach, and a Gourmand Card in hand :)

My mom picked up the sample rings last Wednesday, as Joel’s parents were going to the States and were taking his ring to him to fit.

They’re still wrong.

I guess it’s pretty hard to work on a description….so I decided to surf the net for an image of what we want.

Is this so hard to get?

Joel, being the 3d graphics guy he is, even came up with a quick rendering

The sample ring fits Jo, but he thinks the 4mm width looks flimsy on his hand. I’ll get him a 6mm wide band na lang then.

I’ve finally completed the invitation wording and entourage list, and Jo got to find the entire Zapfino family.

I feel I’m more OC about the invitations than the wedding dress, as I’ve spent the last few days thinking about text, fonts, and colors. Berts will work on the layouts tomorrow, and I am quite excited to see how they turn out.

I’ve asked Jo to buy some streamer throws for the post-ceremony walk. I like them because they’re not noisy (like confetti canons), don’t involve potentially harming animals (butterflies and doves), and are not hard to clean up after (rice, confetti, petals).

Besides, I haven’t seen much of these around, so I think they’ll be a refreshing change.

Met Jojit na rin, signed contracts, and gave him our DP. So we now officially have The 3rd Party as our coordinators. I got a list of things to do…dami pa pala :(
________________________

I attended my aunt’s wedding today. I actually got teary eyed during the ceremony, and couldn’t believe Tess wasn’t crying while she was walking down the aisle. I think I would be (1) weeping, (2) tottering on my 4-inch heels, and (3) worrying how I would recognize Jo without my glasses.

The reception was short but sweet. (1) Introduction of the Bridal Party, (2) Introduction of the Bride and Groom, (3) Cake cutting and Wine drinking, (4) Dinner, (5) Toasts, (6) Thank yous, (6) First Dance.

The speeches by the mother of the groom and the bride’s brother were really touching. The MoG said that they were really happy to welcome Tess to their family as she is a sweet, devoted, religious, smart girl (all of which is true), and the BoB started out with a funny speech but couldn’t keep from shedding tears as he said goodbye to his ate and asked the Groom to take care of her.

I noticed that while everyone was dressed for the event, the technicians looked really grubby in their T-shirts and jeans. I think I’ll mention this to the coordinators. At the least they should be in button-down shirts and slacks. Or polo barongs.

And from what hole do these surprise photographers come from? You know the ones…the ones who take your photos and sell them at a table outside the reception. Sometimes the photos are just regular shots, sometimes you get tacky ones, with the image superimposed on a glass of wine, flowers, a calendar (gross).

I don’t want them at our wedding either. Must mention to Jojit et al, and Claudine.

Yikes. Na ba-bridezilla na ba ako?

Eheh.

So Shu me

To console myself (after throwing a raging fit in front of our dickweed contractor), I decided to hit Rustan’s to do some shopping.

I passed by the Shu Uemura counter to buy some eyeliner and mascara, and although the regular colors were available, I couldn’t stop myself from getting the Satellite pencil (Creamy dual-ended eye pencil in silver and black with silver sparkles), and the waterproof mascara in ocean blue.

Ahhhh. I love shopping!!!!

Q&A

Jo: (sometimes, in exasperation) Why must you be so snooty, and sarcastic, and blunt, and why are you not fond of kids but so fond of pets, and why are you obsessed with food and your work? Why are you so intense with everything? Why???

Mai: ehhhhh…… It’s my nay-cha.

I don’t think this is going to work any longer.

Flowers
Got the quote from our florist and it covers all items except the roses. Our florist is a very good friend of my mom’s so she billed only for materials and labor, as the service is really a gift from her. Great Price! Totally reasonable, quite low pa nga. I am so happy as I’ve been dreading getting the quotation for weeks. Now I need to ask one of our ninongs if I can buy roses from them at wholesale prices. I need 160 dozens (!) in various shades of pink - from baby pink to fuschia.

Invitations
Berty and I visited Jean last Saturday to have a look at fonts and paper types. It seems that Ever only carries Strathmore paper in ultrabright white and natural white, and they really really specialize more on formal-style invitations. I’ve found the font I want to use for our invitations - Zapfino. It’s a calligraphic font and looks almost handwritten. What I find cool about it is that it has 4 variations of text you can use so you are able to interchange types for that imperfect look. What I find uncool is that it is USD 120.00 for the set. I’ve got types 1 to 4 but want the Zapfino Ligatures and Ornaments as well. Hopefully Jo can get a set for me.

I’ve decided to have the souvenir tags printed by Ever na rin. I was supposed to make them myself, but they don’t cost too much and with the way we are busy at work I may run out of time making them.

I think I am going to pay out of my nose for my laziness. Heh.

Coordinator
Meeting with the 3rd Party this week to sign contracts and give our DP. Salamat, tapos na rin ako dito. Jojit will give me checklists that will probably show me how much more work I have to do so I am not exactly thrilled to get them (them = the lists, not Jojit etc).

Makeup
My mother got to speak with Alex na and he says that if he is here in Manila he will prioritize my booking, but he may be in Europe for some training. Eeee. He says he will definitely be here for my trial makeup and will supervise Peddy, so that Peddy know how to fix my hair and makeup. Fair enough. Bonus is I get to have my hair cut and colored because siempre Alex will be able to cut to the style na.

AVP / Video
Got a text from Bong of Threelogy that they just acquired another 3ccd camera and that they’ll shoot with 3 cameras instead of 2 at no extra cost. Galing!!! He also reminded me that we need to discuss the AVP. To be frank, I haven’t thought of it at all. Jo says he will discuss with Bong via email, so I will need to remind him na lang.

Threelogy seems to be the talk of the wowies now. They’re very reasonably priced kasi. I hope they get a lot of work because from what I see, they’re a very talented and dedicated group.

Music for the AVP pa pala. Aggg.

Photographers
I’ve emailed Mimi and Pilar about the change of venue from INC Cubao to INC Pandacan. Mimi’s responded, but I need to follow up with Pilar. Agggg.

Hotel
Must email the Pen na rin soon to reserve. Aggggg.

Arrhae
I need arrhae. Where the hell do you get arrhae. Agggggg.

Just heard from Roy (Jo’s best man) that he is getting married in January 2006. :) Jo says we’ll be back in Manila for the wedding, as we will need to have our visas stamped around that time anyway. Goody good good.

Am I insensitive? Jo says I am quite dense when it comes to feelings and he gets frustrated that he needs to spell things out for me a lot of the time….

Yes, I guess I am a bit insensitive. I think a lifetime of thickskinnedness, directness and saying what I want to say has made me think that everyone does things the same way. Jo, on the other hand, doesn’t speak up as much and waits for me to sense how he feels. Siempre, a lot of times I dont so he ends up telling me nalang. How do you train yourself to be more sensitive? :(
